Background

The Home Depot is the world's largest and most important home improvement product chain, with a presence in the United States, Mexico and Canada.

In Mexico, it operates 140 stores and it has more than 17,000 associates and associates proud to be part of the large Sangre Naranja family, who offer their customers the best shopping experience both in physical stores and through their online store.

With a large scale operation, Home Depot Mexico understood the importance of optimizing its selection and hiring processes to ensure the smooth operation of its stores and remain competitive.

Desafío

The average time to fill a vacancy was 13 days, which had a direct impact on the daily operation and the experience of the internal team.

In addition, HR teams were saturated with manual tasks and lacked analytical tools to improve their recruitment strategy.

Solution

Home Depot Mexico chose to implement Emi, an artificial intelligence platform designed to optimize mass recruitment.

Results in 20 stores:

  • Reduction in hiring time for 13 to 4 days per candidate, equivalent to a 69% reduction in hiring time.
  • Savings of 3.8 hours of operational work per contract thanks to automation.
  • Incorporation of real-time reports for more informed decisions.

The success of the initial phase led to the expansion of Emi in 140 stores from Home Depot Mexico.

“Before we didn't have a lot of analytics, but now with the platform you can get a lot of reports (...) to be able to make the following decisions: What are we going to adjust within the recruitment processes?” — Rocío Martínez, Head of Talent Attraction

Results

With the implementation of Emi, Home Depot Mexico achieved:

  • Reduce by a 78% the number of”stores in Foco Rojo” (with more than 5 vacancies), going from 23 to just 5 stores on average.
  • Streamline the dissemination of vacancies and interaction with candidates, improving the experience of the applicant and the internal team.
  • Improve the quality and speed of contracts.
“Without a doubt, Emi is the best artificial intelligence platform and I think it was the best decision Home Depot made. The impact has been very positive. We had 100% adaptation.” — Erika Martínez, Human Resources Leader at Home Depot Mexico

Impact on the business

The experience of Home Depot Mexico demonstrates how artificial intelligence can transform the future of recruitment.

“What I value most is the human quality of the Emi team. From day one, they were always aware of our needs (...). They always adapt to what we need in the operation.” — Rocío Martínez, Head of Talent Attraction

By reducing time, costs and freeing up resources, Human Resources teams can focus on tasks of greater strategic value, while ensuring a more efficient and accurate operation.

Without a doubt, artificial intelligence is transforming the future of recruitment, and Home Depot is at the forefront.
